The Flight of Onkari:
A Story of Brand Inspiration
Name Origin: The name "Onkari" draws inspiration from the Japanese word 音雁 ("onkari"), meaning "wild goose." This evokes a sense of freedom, migration, and natural beauty. While the literal meaning of "wild goose" may not directly connect to the brand or its products, it establishes a unique and evocative tone.
Overall Impression: The combination of the name "Onkari," its Japanese-inspired origin, a minimalist logo, and the thematic March Evoked font establishes a cohesive brand identity. It suggests a focus on elegance, natural inspiration, and modern refinement.
Concept:
Where Tradition Meets Modernity
Drawing inspiration from the Japanese concept of godai (the five elements) and the freedom of the wild goose, Onkari's design blends traditional sushi with a refined, modern touch. An earthy color palette and minimalist packaging celebrate the artistry of fresh ingredients and meticulous preparation.
Onkari elevates the sushi and poke bowl experience for those who appreciate both time-honored techniques and a contemporary approach to flavor. It's where the timeless art of sushi meets a delightful, modern twist.
Logo Design:
Minimalist Aesthetic: The logo maintains a minimalist aesthetic, emphasizing clean lines and a visually pleasing balance. This simplicity aligns well with a Japanese-inspired origin.Typography: The chosen font, March Evoked, complements this theme. Its inspiration from springtime in Tokyo, with its blossoming flowers and contrasting lines and curves, creates a chic and modern appeal—an excellent complement to the minimalist logo design.
The Color Palette: A Symphony of Nature and Philosophy
Inspiration: Onkari's color palette is inspired by the Japanese concept of godai (五大), the five elements, embodying the profound forces of nature. It features a harmonious interplay of carefully chosen colors, each representing a distinct element:
Colors: Earth: A rich, grounding Brown (#231D13) symbolizes stability and a connection to the natural world. Water: Turquoise (#52A4B0), with its cool depths, represents fluidity, adaptability, and a sense of serene tranquility. Fire: A vibrant Orange (#B23D1C) ignites warmth, energy, and a touch of the transformative spirit. Wind: Cream (#C09C7A) provides a sense of lightness and movement, suggesting the expansive and ever-changing nature of wind. Void: The subtle warmth of Ochre (#C1B9AC) echoes the vastness from which all elements arise, offering balance and depth.
Philosophy: This meticulously selected palette doesn't simply utilize colors – it tells a story. It reflects a deep reverence for the natural world while establishing a uniquely memorable and sophisticated brand identity.
Web Design and UX (User Experience):
This sushi website offers a visually appealing and user-friendly experience for online ordering. The design features a modern aesthetic, likely incorporating high-quality images of sushi to stimulate the appetite.
The single-page format enhances ease of use. Key sections, such as the menu, ordering process, and restaurant information, are clearly defined. Accordion buttons provide a clever way to organize extensive menu options, allowing users to expand and collapse sections as needed. This keeps the page uncluttered and improves navigation.
Overall, the web design prioritizes a balance between visual appeal and intuitive functionality. The goal is to create a seamless online ordering experience that reflects the quality and artistry of the sushi itself.
Packaging:
Packaging Type 1: Edgy Sushi Boxes
Color: The dark gray aligns with the sophistication found in the brand's color palette and creates a striking contrast that visually highlights the sushi within.
Functionality: The chopstick handle is both innovative and practical. Its uniqueness reinforces the brand's Japanese-inspired theme while offering convenience to the customer.
Label: The label's use of Onkari's graphic elements reinforces the brand's aesthetic. Its limited content aligns with the overall minimalist theme.
Packaging Type 2: Minimalist Bowls
Material: The natural cardboard finish reflects the brand's connection to the earth and its respect for the simplicity of nature – a core aspect of the godai inspiration.
Shape: The basic, round structure of the bowls emphasizes the minimalist approach, letting the vibrant ingredients and colors speak for themselves.
Design: The solitary use of the Onkari logo ensures brand recognition without cluttering the packaging. This lets the fresh, natural beauty of poke bowls and soups hold the visual spotlight.
Packaging Type 3: Rice Container
The use of metal accents adds a touch of refinement, complementing Onkari's focus on elegance while the blend of plastic and cardboard likely enhances functionality without compromising the natural-inspired feel.
Packaging Type 4: The Carry-Out Experience
Paper Bags:
Natural Materials: Reinforce the brand's connection to nature and commitment to sustainability.
Organic Elements: Onkari's colors and graphic elements integrated into the bag's design create a cohesive brand experience from initial encounter to take-home.
Contact Card: A thoughtful touch that provides essential information while subtly reinforcing brand awareness.
Cardboard Boxes:
Consistent Materials: Maintain the focus on natural elements.
